A lot of hard work has been going on “behind the scenes,” but it now appears that several wind energy projects in Carbon County are about to become very visible very soon. Please join us for an evening of discussion about the current wind energy and electrical transmission projects in Carbon County and what to expect from each in the coming year or two.
Kara Choquette from Power Company of Wyoming, LLC, and TransWest Express LLC, will talk about the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre wind energy project that will add 3,000 MW of Wyoming wind capacity on a cattle ranch south of Rawlins, and the TransWest Express Transmission Project that will move energy from Carbon County to markets in California and the Desert Southwest.
Laine Anderson, Director of Wind Energy Operations at Rocky Mountain Power, will talk about the Foote Creek wind project in Arlington, first commissioned on Earth Day in 1999. The existing sixty eight towers will be replaced by twelve towers utilizing new breakthroughs in wind energy technology. Mr. Anderson will discuss other Rocky Mountain Power wind projects in and around the county as well as the Gateway West Transmission Project.
Krista Mann from Invenergy LLC will bring us up to date on the Ekola Flats project proposed for the hills around Medicine Bow and scheduled to generate 500mw of electricity by 2020.
During the course of the evening we will learn about estimated tax revenues that these projects will generate for Carbon County and for Wyoming, how state impact assistance funds may be available to help mitigate any additional impacts on county services especially during construction, and more. Please come and bring your curiosity and your questions!
